I am so proud of our one and only princess, Janina. Here are the awards she got from school this year (Grade 3):

Academic Excellence in Language Arts, Reading and Writing, Mathematics and Science and Health

Principal’s Circle Award for Mind Mapping

Best Dance Moves Award

Leadership Award

I am also looking forward to our eldest Nathan’s graduation on Monday.

We surprised Paolo on his birthday today. Unfortunately, we were the ones who got surprised because he showed up 30 min earlier than expected. Oh well… I thank God for everyone who celebrated this special day with him. Special thanks to Sheryl and Marge who helped me organize it.

Got a balikbayan box from my mom from the U.S. the other day! She sent a lot of clothes for Joaquin, and stuff for all of us. The picture shows Joaquin wearing one of the onesies from her. My mom is such a generous mom and grandma! I really appreciate her!

We just came home from the 7th birthday party of Daniel Suarez. I had a great time chatting with my good friends Sheryl, Jeje and Jiji. I always thank God for my spiritual family. They are always an encouragement to me.

I am looking forward to tonight. Nathan and Janina are having their school “evolution of dance” presentation. Nathan’s class is dancing to Michael Jackson’s Black or White, and Janina’s class is dancing to Buttercup and Footloose. It was fun putting their costumes together. Made me reminisce over the 80’s era. Over the weeks, we’ve seen bits and pieces of their dances as they rehearsed at home after dinner.

This morning, Janina asked me “Mom, will you still be excited when you see me dance tonight?” I guess Janina doesn’t completely understand yet how moms are always excited to see their kids perform. In fact, we are always excited to see them accomplish every single feat, whether big or small, from taking their first spoon of cereal to receiving their first award in school. So my answer to Janina’s question? “I can’t wait to see you tonight!”

Now I know why Joaquin’s colds haven’t cleared up after 2 weeks. The pediatrician confirmed that it is allergic rhinitis. Once I got home, I immediately had the curtains washed and the sheets changed. I also had to order an air sterilizer that should kill all the bacteria and allergens in the room (if that is even possible, living in Manila). With my fingers crossed, I do hope that these steps will help Joaquin.

I have been sleepless for about a week now. Our youngest child, Joaquin, who is 6 months old, has been sick and teething at the same time and haven’t been able to sleep at night. And of course, I have been up with him too. It is such a big temptation to get frustrated during times like this. But I choose to comfort myself with the thought that this too shall pass.

As I look at my 3 older kids, I don’t even remember the times I have been up at night with them. And they all sleep so soundly at night now. So i just cherish this time with my little  Joaquin…

Just a Question

My daughter asks my husband and I a question, “Can I play outside in our garden?” I reply, “It’s very hot outside. It’s high noon. It can hurt your skin.” Paolo seconds the reply by saying, “Yeah, the sun outside can cause skin cancer. Getting exposed to the sun at noon time for a long time is not good for you.” Paolo and I gave her a long discourse on skin cancer.

After our speech, Janina quips, “Hmmm… I was just asking if i could play outside…”
