Since this was my first, I will admit that I was nervous. I really don’t like hospitals and tests. The only times I was eager to go to the hospital was the four times I gave birth to my children. I’ve heard different feedbacks about mammography. Half of the people I talked to said it’s painful, half said it’s just a little uncomfortable.

Another thing I don’t like is waiting in long lines so I decided to have my mammography at St. Luke’s Global City, since it just opened and it’s not very crowded yet. In fact, it wasn’t crowded at all. When I arrived at their Breast Center, there was just one patient ahead of me. They had a nice TV too where I watched the proclamation of Aquino and Binay while I waited. And free wifi! The staff was very friendly and accommodating (I hope it stays that way :D) After I paid for the procedure, I was escorted into a dressing room where I changed into a hospital gown. Then I had a short physical exam performed by a nurse, while she interviewed me about my medical history. After that I was taken into the mammography room. The technician explained to me what I should expect and she was very patient to answer my questions.

Thanks to my family and friends who prayed for me, and to my mom who called me to explain the step by step procedure, my first mammo experience was not as bad as I expected. To describe it plainly, the technician will position your breast on a special platform and will gradually compress it with a clear plastic paddle. This is done on each breast from the top view and side view. The compression was a bit uncomfortable but not painful. At least for me it wasn’t. The radiologist was kind enough to give me an initial reading, upon my request just for my peace of mind. And thank God, there was nothing alarming from the results.

I continually claim God’s promise in Psalm 92 for myself and all of my loved ones. This is God’s promise for you too:
12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
13 planted in the house of the LORD,
they will flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They will still bear fruit in old age,
they will stay fresh and green,
15 proclaiming, “The LORD is upright;
he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”
