Janina was asking us last night if it was okay to say some “words” because a lot of the kids use them anyway. We often get these kinds of questions from our kids. “But others have watched it, why can’t we?” “Others wear it, why can’t we?” “Others say it, why can’t we?” “Others do it, why can’t we?”

God's standardsRomans 12:2 says “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” We don’t have to look very far to see that the world’s standard is so different from God’s. The world tolerates so many things that really are against the Word of God… from what people say or watch, their fashion statement, how they handle relationships to their sexual orientation. Our kids can get sucked into the world’s culture thinking that since everyone’s doing it, it’s probably okay.

We don’t necessarily have to isolate our kids from the world, but as early as possible, they should know that we do not live by it’s standards but by God’s standards. How will they know what God’s standards are? Thankfully, God wrote them all down. Let’s get our kids into the Word at a young age.
