It is such a thrilling feeling to see your name on a title deed! If I’m holding the title deed to something, it means I have the right to that property. I may not have physical possession of the property yet, but the title deed is what tells me that it’s mine, I own it, and no one else can lay claim on it. Even if the car hasn’t been delivered to my garage yet, or the tenants haven’t vacated the house, but if the title deed has my name on it, it is just a matter of time that I will have the property in my hands.
Pastor Paul Barker, in his book “Faith to Live By,” explains that in the verse “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1),” the word “assurance” was derived from a Greek word that was used as a legal term in the first century referring to a “title deed.” This got me excited! It means that the things I have been hoping for, the things I’ve been praying for, they are mine through faith! I already have the title deed to them!
There are still so many things I desire to see in my marriage, in my children, and occasionally, when I realize that reality is still far from my expectations, feelings of doubt seep in. I have to remind myself that faith is my assurance. If your marriage is going through some challenges, faith is your assurance that God will keep you together. If your child has been difficult, and you’re at your rope’s end, faith is your assurance that God’s plans in the life of my child will prevail.
Whatever it is you are hoping for, may it be a restoration of a relationship, breakthrough in your finances, dreams for your family, have faith! Be assured! The title deed has your name on it!
