Ryan was so excited to discover 4 new sea monkeys in his mini aquarium when Joaquin accidentally knocked the whole thing over! As Ryan was crying, I told Joaquin to apologize to his kuya and kidded him that he had to give him money to buy new ones. Joaquin apologized and quickly disappeared. The next thing I saw was Joaquin giving his whole piggy bank to Ryan.

discipline is more than punishment

I got this note from my daughter yesterday after we had a “little” confrontation. After I read it, I told her I forgive her and gave her a hug. After a time of discipline, it is our joy to see our kids repent and ask for forgiveness for the wrong that they have done. Discipline is more than punishment or giving consequences. If after you have grounded your child, or given him a spanking, and yet he remains hard-hearted, and there is no change in him, then it just means you are not done with discipline yet. What we want to see happen is for our kids to acknowledge what they have done and repent from it. We want a change of heart which restores them back to a right relationship with us and with God.

Halfway through the movie, Ryan came to me, teary-eyed and remorseful and said “Mom, this is not the first time I’m watching this.” I asked him to explain. He said that he watched it before in Samuel’s house without asking for our permission. He is clear on the rule that they can’t watch a movie without dad’s or mom’s permission. At this point, he was all broken up and talking in between sobs. I asked him what made him tell me now. He said “I know I shouldn’t keep secrets from you, that’s why I told you.” I told him his dad would have to know about this and then I gave him a […]
